Privacy Policy
- We use your CV only to build your website and to communicate with you about it.
- Your website is public. We ask before putting personal details such as a phone number or address online.
- We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
- We delete your CV files after the project is complete.
- You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data, or stop emailing you, at any time.
1. Who we are
CVtoGit is a pilot service run by AFTEROCR/Shyrley Peraza ("AfterOCR", "we", "us"), based in Quito, Ecuador. We are the controller of the personal data described here. Questions about privacy go to shyrley@afterocr.com.
CVtoGit is not affiliated with GitHub. Your website is hosted by GitHub on your own GitHub account.
2. What data we handle
| Data | Where it comes from | Why we use it |
|---|---|---|
| Your CV and anything else you send (for example publications, photo, links) | You, by email or another channel you choose | To build and publish your website |
| Name, email address and messages | You, when you contact us or join the pilot | To reply, set up your project and give support |
| GitHub username and the email used to create your account | You, or created together with you | To set up and hand over your website |
| Professional contact details of researchers (name, university email, field) | Public sources such as university pages and academic profiles | To tell you about CVtoGit by email. See section 6. |
| Records of opt-outs and requests | You | To honor your choices and prove we did |
We do not ask for sensitive data such as health, political or religious information. If your CV contains any, tell us, and we will leave it off unless you ask us to include it.
3. This promotional page
This page does not use cookies, advertising trackers or forms. Three things to know:
- Google Fonts. The page loads its fonts from Google, so your browser contacts Google servers when the page opens, and Google may receive your IP address. See Google's privacy policy for details.
- Visit statistics (Umami). We use Umami Cloud to count visits to our main pages. It does not use cookies and is designed not to collect personal data such as your name or email address. It records general information, such as which pages are viewed, which website sent the visitor, and the visitor's country, browser and device type. Umami processes this data on its servers. We do not use it to identify individual visitors. The template previews do not use it.
- GitHub hosting. GitHub serves this page and may keep technical logs such as IP addresses, as described in GitHub's privacy statement. We do not receive those logs.
If you email us by clicking a button, your email provider handles that message under its own policy.
4. Why we may use your data
- To provide the service you request. We need your CV and contact details to build your site.
- Your consent. When you send us your CV, you agree that we may use it for this purpose, and you can withdraw that agreement at any time.
- Our legitimate interest. Where the law allows, we send a small number of relevant emails to researchers about our service, and we count visits to understand how many people use our site. You can always opt out of emails.
- Legal duties. For example, keeping records we are required to keep.
5. What becomes public
A website is visible to anyone on the internet and may appear in search engines. Anything we publish at your request will be public. Before we publish personal details such as a phone number, home address, date of birth or personal email, we will check with you. Once published, search engines or other people may have copied the content, so removing it later may not remove every copy.
The website and its files belong to you, in your GitHub account. After handover you control it, including everything on it.
6. Outreach emails
We may email researchers whose professional contact details are publicly available. Each email says who we are, why we are writing, and how to opt out. If you reply "stop" or use the opt-out link, we stop immediately and keep only your email address on a do-not-contact list so we do not write to you again.
7. Who we share data with
We do not sell your data. We share it only as needed:
- GitHub, which hosts your site and account.
- Umami, which provides our visit statistics (see section 3).
- Google, which provides our email and file storage.
- Authorities, if the law requires it.
These providers may process data in other countries, including the United States. We choose providers that protect personal data, and we share only what is needed.
8. How long we keep it
- CV files and project materials: deleted within [30 days] after your site is delivered, unless you ask us to keep them for updates.
- Emails with you: kept for [12 months] after the project ends, then deleted.
- Outreach contacts: deleted if you ask, except the do-not-contact record described above.
- Your website: stays in your account until you remove it. We keep no access after handover.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the data we hold about you and get a copy,
- correct data that is wrong,
- ask us to delete your data,
- object to or limit certain uses, including our outreach emails,
- withdraw your consent at any time,
- complain to your local data protection authority.
To use any of these rights, email shyrley@afterocr.com. We will reply within 30 days.
10. Security
We limit access to your files, keep them in password-protected accounts, and never ask you to send your passwords. We do not keep your GitHub login after we hand over your account. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your data, we will tell you as the law requires.
11. Children
CVtoGit is for adults, including graduate students. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date above. If the change is significant, we will also email people with an active project.
